Family and Consumer Sciences

Hello! I am Alisha Duncan, and I teach Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS). I have a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Central Oklahoma. This will be my third year to teach at Newcastle High School, and I am super excited to begin a new school year! In addition to teaching FACS, I am also the FCCLA advisor.

A little about me: I am married to my high school sweetheart, and we have a daughter who will be a sophomore at Oklahoma State University (Go Pokes!). We love the outdoors! We spend every chance we have hunting, fishing, camping, riding atv's, and shooting our bows. I also enjoy cooking, sewing, reading, and spending time with my family.

For the 2017-2018 school year, FACS will offer three courses: FACS Basics (1st and 2nd semester), Housing & Interior Design (1st Semester) and Hospitality (2nd Semester), Foods I (1st semester) and Foods II (2nd semester).

FACS Basics is the foundation that advanced classes build from and is required prior to taking any advanced class. We cover everything from Early Childhood Development and Nutrition to Interior Design and Communication, plus lots more! This class offers students a variety of skills that will, without a doubt, be used in everyday life outside of the classroom. Please click here for the FACS Basics Syllabus.

Housing and Interior Design is an introductory course that covers basics such as reading floor plans, locating pathways of foot traffic, color theory, and of course, residential and commercial decor.

Hospitality offers students insight into the hospitality industry, which includes travel and tourism, foods, and event planning, plus much more.

Foods I & II allows students to learn about nutrition and wellness, as well as various food preparation techniques and food budgeting. Please click here for the Foods I & II Syllabus.

In all of the FACS classes, we will use technology, research, explore, give presentations, cook, experiment, design, and much more. FACS classes allow each student a hands-on experience to what we are learning. We will definitely be busy!

Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is the student organization for FACS. Newcastle FCCLA has a rich history, and I am proud to continue leading our chapter at various degrees within our state. We currently have three district officers that represent over 15 schools in our district. FCCLA will be involved in a multitude of community events, as well as have many district and state-wide  leadership opportunities. Students have the opportunity to develop leadership and communication skills that will last a lifetime, and all FACS students are encouraged to be involved.

The best way to communicate with me is through email; my email address is aduncan@newcastle.k12.ok.us.  You may also call the office to schedule an appointment. My planning period is 1st hour, and I am available after school with advanced notice. Please don't hesitate to contact me for any reason. My priority is your student, and I welcome parent communication.

Here's to a successful year!
